THE DIARY OF AN EXILE

The Diary of an Exile revolves around the memoirs and daily life of revolutionary musician Fuat Saka, who was forced to leave Turkey just before the 1980 coup due to his political views and the fascist attacks he suffered on the eve of 1979. Following his escape, Saka lived in exile for nearly 20 years, from the 1980s to the late 1990s. His music was shaped and diversified during this period. He blended the traditions of Anatolian music with the music of different cultures. His perspective and approach to music would enable him to produce music in various genres and become one of the pioneering figures in the emergence of what would later be called World Music. The film takes the viewer back and forth in time, narrating the ups and downs of Saka's life and music.
